ABOUT US
Our History & Mission
How We Started
Our Amazing Fighters was founded by LeAnna Headley in 2014, beginning as humble social media page dedicated to sharing the stories of children battling pediatric cancer and advocating for the inequities faced by patients. Over the last decade, OAF transitioned into 501(C)3 nonprofit with a relentless dedication to raising awareness, providing support, and spreading joy to both children and their families during their fight against pediatric cancer. We work to support families locally in Central Virginia and across the nation. While our nonprofit has transformed, our heart & passions for this cause has remained the same.
What We Do
Our organization works diligently to provide support to as many children & families as we can. Our goal is to ease the burden of pediatric cancer however we can by providing financial assistance, therapeutic events for families to connect, holiday support, care packages, personalized blankets, bald American Girl Dolls, Overnight Experiences, offering tailored resources, & more. Additionally, we are committed to helping local families by providing assistance through our Virginia Support programming via community get-togethers, coffee for parents, hospital visits, respite care, purchasing meals for inpatient families, helping with unexpected needs.
MISSION STATEMENT
Our Amazing Fighters is committed to raising awareness, providing support, and spreading joy to kids and their families in the fight against pediatric cancer.
A Note From Our Founder,
LeAnna
In 2014, our journey began with a simple social media page dedicated to raising awareness about pediatric cancer. Through sharing the facts, stories and heartfelt experiences of the brave children and families, we aimed to illuminate the challenges face by those affected by this devastating illness & let the world know about the inequities faced by pediatric patients.
As I connected with these incredible families, it became increasingly clear that more could be done to support them during their most difficult times. Inspired by their strength and resilience, we took the significant step of founding our non-profit foundation and proudly transitioned into a registered 501c3 foundation. Born out of a desperate need for families to build community, find joy, and receive support, Our Amazing Fighters exists to ease the burden of this disease however we can.
Over the years, our commitment has grown and we gratefully refer to ourselves as the home of "Joyful Community." Our mission is to provide comprehensive support to families touched by pediatric cancer by offering resources, programs, advocacy, a compassionate community. We are dedicated to ensuring that no family faces this journey alone.
When I started Our Amazing Fighters, I had no idea what was to come. Over the last decade, I am amazed at what we have been able to accomplish together & I continue to be flooded with emotions as I think about the gift Our Amazing Fighters has been to me and so many others. I can't thank our donors, sponsors, supporters, volunteers, & board enough but even more so, I am immensely grateful to the families we have supported for allowing us to step into your hurting, & more-so, into your lives. Each milestone, birthday invite, hospital bedside visit, end of chemo party, funeral, hug, smile, and tear shared is an imprint left on my heart. I have been touched and forever changed by each and every person I have had the privilege of getting to know because of OAF.
Thank you all for being a part of the joy, the magic, and the hope that is Our Amazing Fighters. This is only the beginning... With love,
